"That should have been us."

Sakurai's attention was drawn by Aiba's voice.

"That could have been us..." he repeated to himself. Masaki's sight was fixed in the distance, where the members of the red team celebrated with their victory flag. Once the new year had began, the artists and participants of the Year-End Song Festival were gathered backstage, congratulating themselves for the new year and a job well done. The Arashi members sat by a corner of the room, making company with the 67th ceremony's host who was still wiping sweat from his forehead after the long night.

"I'm sorry... that I couldn't bring us the flag." Masaki's throat was dry since his tears had began to stream in the middle of their performance during the closing act.

Sho turned to him, Masaki's words not sinking in.

"What are you saying?" asked Sho, who seemed to be the only one listening to Aiba's mumbling.

"I should have been able to bring the flag... It's what we agreed on. Leader was going to hold it, we would celebrate and the year would finally end. So why...?" Masaki's breaking voice choked his words. "It should have been different..."

His towel was no longer drying his sweat but his eyes, reddening again as he kept pondering on the thought.

"Masaki..." Sho called him firmly but Aiba didn't look at him right away, for he tried to conceal the new tears that pooled in his eyes. "Masaki look at me..." Sho's hand gripped on Masaki's shoulders this time, capturing him right away, as their eyes locked together.
"Stop thinking and just look at me...  Forget about the flags or the votes, none of that matters after today. But what you've done, what you've accomplished up until now, means the world. You were amazing, Masaki, and so much more... We are proud of you. Think about us, think about your family... What you've done today will change everything. And you did it! It was you! Regardless of us being there, you were the first of us to do this by yourself. It was you they wanted and you did it! It's over. We are proud of you... you have no idea, Masaki."

Tears were streaming freely down Masaki's cheek. After so much work and preparation for months, with countless practices and rehearsals, while still trying to keep up with their activities, knowing that everything would had suddenly come to an end overwhelmed him.

He needed this. He needed his members back, after long hours without them. He needed their warmth, just like how Sho's words felt in his ears, taking his worries away and freeing him from that pressure.

Aiba couldn't resist holding himself back anymore and embraced Sho tightly, his arms wrapping around Sho's neck and hiding his face in crook of his neck. Sho hugged him back a little surprised, welcoming the other's warmth and feeling him tremble as he sobbed close to his neck.

"Thank you... Sho-chan..."

Sho couldn't help but smile at his sentimental partner. But he knew very well just how much he had been welling up and he couldn't be happier for him. Yet everything about him only made Sho love him more.

"Masaki..." Sho called him softly once his crying had subsided, never breaking their embrace.

Masaki responded with a soft hum against his skin.

"Your Koi dance was really cute."

A laugh escaped Masaki’s lips as his eyes smiled at Sho under his tears. How could he possibly deserve someone like him in his life?

A/N: End! Let me know what you think! This is actually the first drabble I wanted to write, or the first idea that came to mind. It gave me a lot of Kohaku feels but we know Aiba-chan was just perfect ^-^. Normally I would think Aiba-chan doesn't care about winnning or losing but I wanted to write this and make it angsty so sorry hehe~! For tomorrow, the genre is something I haven't tried before! I appreciate your comments~! See ya~!
