“Sho-kun...?” Masaki shook Sho’s head laying on the edge of the mattress. Sho jolted awake from a deep sleep. The beeping sounds of a machine brought him back to his senses inside that hospital room.
“Masaki… you’re awake…” Sho brushed the tiredness from his eyes.
“I couldn’t sleep…” Masaki lay in the white covers of the hospital stretcher. “It’s too cold… and it’s starting to hurt again.” His hand searched for his rib cage.
“Should I call a nurse?”
“No.” Masaki stopped him before he would get up from his place next to Masaki’s bed. “Stay. I don’t want any more pain killers. I just… I want to be with you.” Masaki’s weak voice pleaded him and Sho had no other choice but to sit back down.
Masaki freed his arm from the covers, extending it to Sho in a desiring gesture to take his which Sho unquestionably obliged to. Masaki’s touch was ice cold. His grip held to Sho tightly, suppressing the new pulsing pain on his sides. Sho hid his worry in a reassuring smile returning a heartily squeeze to Aiba’s hand as his thumb brushed Masaki’s hand soothingly.
“How long have you been here?” Masaki asked, trying to distract his mind.
“Since dawn…” Masaki raised his sight to him. “I came here as soon as they called me. Your parents had a delay but I told them I would be here as long as I had to. They should be here soon.”
“What? But what about your Zero filming?” Masaki asked alarmed.
“I told them I couldn’t make it.”
“What!?” Aiba tried lifting his body vainly as it resolved in more pain.
“Masaki, don’t push yourself.” Sho soothed him back into the bed.
Aiba laid his head back down, letting the pain subside. “Why would you do that?”
“I was not going to leave you here all by yourself. There is no way.” Aiba knew very well Sho meant every word, still his guilt wouldn’t let him accept it.
“I’m so stupid…” Aiba sighed, looking everywhere but at Sho. “How could I let this happen…”
“Masaki, look at me.” Sho’s firm tone made Aiba’s red and damp eyes find his. “This could have happened to any one of us and, I swear, I would give anything for it to be me instead of you in this bed, but it’ll mean nothing if you don’t fight this. I’m here, with you. You’re not alone. We’ll get over this one, I promise.”
“No.” Aiba responded, the tears pooling in his eyes. “I would never allow it to be you.”
Sho’s longing eyes smiled for Aiba’s even when the tears threatened to blur his own eyes. Sho searched for Aiba’s hand again, holding it close to him with both hands this time.
“Can I do anything for you? Anything that could help?” Sho asked noticing the agony Aiba still hid in his eyes, even when they smiled for him so profoundly.
“Take the pain away.” Aiba responded sincerely.
Sho didn’t question it any further. Aiba slid to a side of the bed with his outmost effort, making way for Sho to climb beside him, laying his body warmly close to the younger’s and trapped him in an embrace. At least now he could forget about the cold and get some sleep.
