"Masaki..." Sho called his lover sitting across from him at the restaurant table. The other gave him his full attention after sipping from his glass of wine. "You know... we've been dating for a while and... I've known you for more than half my life,"
Masaki turned stiff in his chair, his head starting to swirl with countless thoughts, making him build up anticipation. 'What is he doing? What is happening? Could it be? Is he actually about to...!?'
"Being with you is my one true happiness and... everything about you is just... amazing. You're my sun. I could never do anything without you... That's why..." Masaki's heart started to race, his hands covered his mouth as he observed Sho searching inside his coat. Masaki held his breath. It was happening, after all those years and dates and amazing sex, it would finally come to this...
Sho placed it in the middle of the table for Masaki to see, taking the words right out of him, his mouth half-open in disbelief. The latter looked and looked, until he wasn't sure of what he was looking at.
"I think... we should take a chance and do it." added Sho, although in Masaki's mind his words had no relation to what was sitting on their dinner table. "I know we've been skeptical about it but... I think we're ready."
"Is that a passport?" Masaki asked when he remembered how to speak.
"Yes!”
"And tickets..."
"Can you guess?"
Masaki looked at his lover, his mouth still agape while Sho leaned in closer over the table.
"We're going on a cruise!"
"A cruise...?"
"Yes! We've never been to one so I thought, ‘why not try something new this year?’ Look!" Sho took out a brochure from his coat pocket as well. "There are all sorts of thing we could try there, like wall climbing and even theater, this place has everything! And I got us amazing rooms on the top-"
"How much did you pay for this?" Was what Masaki wanted to know.
"Ah... It's better if you don't know, but don't worry. I just received my last check and it was just enough to check us in."
"Not enough to buy a ring apparently..." Masaki said under his breath.
"...What?"
Aiba's eyes widened realizing the words had escaped his lips, but seeing Sho's clueless expression only infuriated him more, as if he hadn't been in this relationship enough to know what he really wanted. He wouldn't let himself lie this time. It's been too long, too much of a wait to let this go unsettled.
"Is this the best you can think of?"
"Eh?"
"We've been dating for so long for you to ask me on a cruise?"
"Umm... I don't understand. I thought you would be interested. I mean... we've mentioned this before I didn't know... you wanted something else?"
Masaki bit his lower lip as he inhaled, the fumes blowing from his ears.
"I can't believe this..."
"Masaki? What's wrong?"
"What's wrong!? Sho, it's been six years! Six! You have any idea how much I've been wanting this? Every year, I've been waiting, expecting this day. Finally, it's our anniversary and you... " Masaki's face fell on his hands in frustration, while Sho looked on, stranded in the land of his confusion.
"Masaki..."
"I can't believe you right now..." Aiba collected himself from his chair, got on his feet and gathered his things ready to walk out.
"Masaki, wait, I don't understand! Did I do something wrong!?"
